Meet Our 2025 Herbal Interns

At the Lamb Shoppe & Wellness Center, our Herbal Internship Program is more than just an educational experience—it’s a journey of connection, growth, and empowerment. Each year, we welcome a group of passionate learners who are eager to deepen their relationship with the healing plants around them. Whether they're blending teas, tending herb gardens, or sharing their own stories of transformation, our interns bring heart and purpose to everything they do.

This year’s interns come from diverse backgrounds, but they all share a love for nature, a desire to support wellness through herbal medicine, and a commitment to lifelong learning. We’re excited to introduce you to a few of these inspiring individuals and give you a glimpse into their herbal journeys.

🌿 Meet Sarah - completed Level 1, 2, & 3 Home Herbalist and other self studies.

"I'm the founder of Smith Farm 1914, a holistic skincare and wellness brand rooted in traditional wisdom and nature-based practices. Our Instagram fosters community around homesteading, herbs, and back-to-your-roots living.

I've turned to herbalism after a series of events where I felt really unheard by the medical community and ended up having a very traumatic birth with my first born. Ultimately it led me down a path where I desire to help others feel seen, cared for, and empowered in their wellness journeys.

One of my favorite herbs is elderflower. I love it not only for its gentle floral beauty but for its incredible versatility—it’s safe and effective for both adults and children, whether used for colds, allergies, or calming inflamed skin. It even plays a role in my handcrafted skincare line, making it a staple in both my home and work.

This is my second year interning with Connie and Clara, I'm so thankful for the Lamb Shoppe and what they provide to the community!"

🌿 Meet Nikki - completed Level 2 Home Herbalist and classes from the Matthew Wood Institute of Herbalism.

"My name is Nikki Nau, and I am grateful to be interning this year! I live in Montrose, MN, with my husband and three sons. I love gardening, cooking, backpacking, camping, reading, and researching.

Although I had been growing vegetables, herbs, and flowers for over 30 years, herbalism had only been on my periphery. But I credit Mullein (Verbascum thapsus) with pulling me into the study of herbalism. During a drought year when there was no need to mow our yard, Mullein was popping up all over, which caught my attention and curiosity about the benefits of this plant. That drought year brought a lot of smoke from wildfires out west. Mullein provided an important lung remedy for everyone in my house.

Over the last few years, I have been more intently focused on the study of herbalism, making discoveries on my own and learning from incredible teachers. Learning to work with herbal medicine has benefited me, my family, and my friends. I work with herbs daily, whether in food, drinks, or as remedies.

My favorite herb right now is Motherwort (Leonurus cardiaca).  Motherwort is popping up all over my yard and gardens this spring, so I decided to create a Motherwort bed and appreciate the abundance. I have worked with the tincture and salve. Motherwort is a powerful heart remedy. One way I use Motherwort is by massaging the salve over my heart as an energetic protector, strengthener, and opener. I have also used the tincture as an emmenagogue.

Advice: Learning herbal medicine is fascinating and, at times, can seem overwhelming. My advice is to follow your curiosity and wonder, and let the plants lead. You'll be amazed at what you learn and at just the right time. I hear many herbalists say we will never know it all. That encourages me when I realize how much I still have to learn.

Fun fact: Where do I start? I am continually amazed by the many gifts plants have to share with us! I recently learned that Catnip (Nepeta cataria) will lower a fever without raising the temperature first. No other plant or pharmaceutical can lower a fever without first raising it a bit. I had no idea! This fact is credited to Mary Siisip Geniusz from the book titled Plants Have So Much To Give Us, All We Have to Do is Ask."

🌿 Meet Darcie - completed Level 1 & 2 Home Herbalist.

"I’ve completed both Level 1 and Level 2 of the Home Herbalist course and have a deep passion for staying healthy through prevention. My goal is to use herbs as my primary form of medicine.

My favorite herb is Plantain—it’s so versatile! I use it topically for bug bites, infections, cuts, wounds, and other skin irritations. I even used it to successfully treat a gum infection by placing the fresh herb directly in my mouth near the affected area. I’ve also taken it internally to support my body during colds.

A good friend of mine took the Home Herbalist class and shared some of what she learned—I was immediately intrigued. Once I started learning, I couldn’t get enough! God has given us so many amazing plants to support our health naturally.

Advice: Just jump in—you won’t regret it! There are so many powerful plants growing all around us, and many that people consider “weeds” are actually healing treasures.

Fun fact: Wild bergamot often gets white spots on its leaves, which is actually a sign of its antifungal properties! I find the concept of plant signatures so fascinating—nature truly leaves us clues."

We are so grateful for the presence, curiosity, and dedication of each of our 2025 interns. Their willingness to learn, grow, and share their unique paths enriches not only our Herbalist Program but the wider community as well. As they continue to study and connect with the plant world, we know they’ll carry this wisdom forward—into their homes, businesses, and beyond. Thank you for following along, and we hope their stories inspire you to explore the power of herbal medicine in your own life.
